Steve Barker Congratulates Sekhukhune United on Reaching Nedbank Cup Final! Stellies lost out to Babina Noko over the weekend.

Stellenbosch FC lost to Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday afternoon. Head coach Steve Barker sent his congratulations to the winning team.

The game ended at 0-0 after 90 minutes and extra time, sending proceedings to penalties. The visitors were 4-3 victors after the lottery of spot kicks.

“Maybe there were times were we’ve just lost control,” Barker told SuperSport TV after the loss.

“We started the game really well I thought, the first 20-30 minutes. And then we just didn’t have enough calmness and composure in possession to just keep the ball moving.

“We started playing long balls, to sort of do things that weren’t the plan, we wanted to keep the ball moving, move them around and hopefully the opportunities and gaps would be created, which they were, on occasions. A couple of half chances that maybe we didn’t take.

“They are a difficult team to break down, on the balance of play I think a draw was a fair result and then it went to penalties.

“Congratulations to Sekhukhune, I wish them all the best in the final. They came here, they did their job, and I can only wish both finalists the best on the 27^th of May [2023].” He commented.
