Kaizer Chiefs lost 4-1 at home to Royal AM in the DSTV Premiership on Saturday evening. Head coach Stuart Baxter has since apologised to their fans for such a showing.
This was Amakhosi’s biggest defeat in some years and the first time they’d conceded 12 goals since 2005 (16 years). The defeat leaves Chiefs in 12th spot in the DSTV Premiership.
Victor Letsoalo scored a stunning brace for Royal AM. Sifiso Hlanti scored a deflected free kick to pull one goal back for the hosts.
Substitute and debutant Sifiso Mabiliso scored an own goal with his very first touch as a Kaizer Chiefs player. Mfundo Thikazi scored the fourth goal in the 93rd minute to complete the stunning rout.
“I think the first 30 minutes we picked up a bit where we left off — the structure and movement were quite good, and we were creating chances,” Baxter told SuperSport TV after the loss
“But again, we failed to take those chances. And again, we gave up a rather unnecessary and sloppy goal.
“We get into a situation where we have to chase the game. But we’ve got plenty of time, so we try to stay patient, but then Nange gets his injury, and we lose a bit of balance.
“But we come in at half time and we’re talking about sharpening certain aspects of our game, and not overhauling the game.
“Then when we conceded the second goal you’ve got to really chase the game, so we go to a back four.
“And maybe that makes it a bit more complicated for the players — maybe that’s something the coach has to consider.” The Scot added.
