Sundowns And Celtic To Lock horns In A Catch Up Game Next week
Mamelodi Sundowns’ catch up game next week with Bloemfontein Celtic will be played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville rather than Loftus Versfeld, officials said on Tuesday. The match on Wednesday April 5 had originally been set down for Loftus Versfeld after being brought forward from May 17.Sundowns’ qualification for the group phase of the African Champions League has necessitated the change of date.
The original date would have been just days ahead of Sundowns’ first outing in the group phase. The draw has yet to be made. For two successive seasons Celtic have shocked Sundowns with away victories in the Absa premiership. In 2015 at Atteridgeville they hammered Sundowns 5-0 to end their title hopes and last year beat them 3-1 to end Sundowns’ 18-match unbeaten record and tie them a chance to tie with Kaizer Chiefs for the record for the longest unbeaten run in a single league season.
But in February Sundowns won 1-0 away at Celtic in their last meeting. Celtic are on their campaign to move away from the relegation zone and they will do anything to survive and move off the danger zone. Celtic still have their interim coach Lehlohonolo Seema, while Luc Eymael is still held up with trouble from Polokwane City and the matter has been brought forward to PSL officials to adjudicate.
