Mamelodi Sundowns host Al Merrikh in the CAF Champions League tomorrow at the FNB Stadium. Winger Surprise Ralani will get to experience the club supporters for the first time.
The diminutive winger joined Masandawana from Cape Town City in the January transfer window. As a new addition to the squad, he will not have played in front of the Ka Bo Yellow supporters at all.
The PSL last had supporters in match attendance in March 2020, when the covid-19 pandemic was ascending. The bio bubble returned in August 2020, without any fans in football stadiums.
The entire 2020-2021 season had no fans in attendance. This season, the last quarter of the campaign will see teams have 50% of stadium capacity open to supporters.
Ralani is thrilled to finally show off his talents and abilities to the Mamelodi Sundowns crowd, live in action.
“It’s exciting to say the least because we really have been missing them. It’s really nice to finally have them [at the stadium].” Ralani told the club media.
“Having the 12th man with you always makes a huge difference but at the end of the day it’s still 11 v 11. The 12th man is just a morale booster we can use though.”
The Brazilians host Al Merrikh in what is widely viewed as a dead rubber for the hosts, after they sealed qualification into the next round of the competition.
“The last encounter ended in a goalless draw, and we surely learned our lesson from that. If you don’t take your chances things like that will happen, so obviously it’s going to be a lot different this time around.” He concluded.
