CONFIRMED: SuperSport United Reappoint Gavin Hunt As Head Coach

SuperSport United have appointed Gavin Hunt as the first team head coach ahead of the upcoming 2021/22 season. Hunt has been free since he left Kaizer Chiefs last year before Stuart Baxter took over. At first he was linked with head coach role at Royal AM before they employed Khabo Zondo.

This will be the second time that Hunt manages Matsatsantsa after he had almost seven years run with the club from 2007 to 2013. He led the Pretoria based club to three league titles and Nedbank Cup. With the management looking to reconstruct the club, they behold Hunt as the perfect man to prepare for future.

SuperSport United FC is pleased to confirm the return of coach Gavin Hunt as head coach on a twoyear deal. In his previous spell with the club, Hunt joined Matsatsantsa in 2007 and led the team to a historic three consecutive league championship titles between 2008 and 2010, with a Nedbank Cup title under his belt in 2012. He later left the club in 2013 for Bidvest Wits and won the league title and MTN 8 trophy in the 2016/17 season as well as the Telkom Knock-Out trophy in the 2017/18 season.

Hunt, who turns 58 next week, shares his thoughts on coming back home, ”I am really excited and looking forward to the challenge ahead, especially to work with the younger players at the club and build the team to ensure the club is successful and competitive In the PSL. I am looking forward to this challenge. SuperSport United CEO Stanley Matthews adds,” Gavin has a great history with our club and his coaching record speaks for itself with four PSL League titles and domestic cups to his name.

We have some fantastic young talent in the club that will benefit from Gavin’s vast experience and coaching ability and we look forward to him blending our youth with the experienced players we already have and the couple of new players who will be joining us in the weeks ahead.

SUPERSPORT TO LOSE WILLIAMS?

The Brazilians are reportedly looking to sign Ronwen Williams of SuperSport as he made it clear that he’d like to move from the childhood club. He also added that he would like to win the league which makes it vivid that Sundowns are likely to be his destination.

Soccer Laduma reported that Downs are close to concluding a swap deal that would see Williams joining them while Ricardo Goss goes in the opposite direction. It has also been reported that Downs are chasing the signature of Cape Town City’s Thabo Nodada.
