Kaizer Chiefs Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen Shines With Five Consecutive Clean Sheets

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has made a strong statement in the early stages of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. Petersen has started all five league games for the Soweto giants, keeping a clean sheet in each, marking his longest unbeaten run in the PSL.
The 30-year-old has played 450 minutes without conceding, surpassing his previous record of four consecutive league clean sheets. That previous best came during his time at Ajax Cape Town in 2017, when he kept four clean sheets between late April and May before conceding against Baroka FC.
Petersen’s current run accounts for 62.5% of his highest number of clean sheets in a single league season, which stands at eight, achieved during the 2022/23 campaign. That season, he played 16 league matches, conceding in only eight of them.
His current form has brought stability to Chiefs’ goalkeeping department, which faced scrutiny in pre-season amid speculation linking multiple keepers to the club. Petersen has firmly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, effectively shutting down debates over the position.
The goalkeeper’s performance has also put him in contention for Bafana Bafana selection ahead of the AFCON finals at the end of the year. Inclusive of last season, Petersen has now played seven league matches in a row and is on track to surpass his personal record for consecutive league appearances at Chiefs, which stands at 10 in 2023.
Remarkably, while Petersen had to wait an entire season to play five games last term, he has achieved the same number in just three weeks this campaign. His consistent performances have been credited in part to goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, who has helped Petersen maintain focus and form between the posts.
With Chiefs off to a strong start and Petersen demonstrating remarkable consistency, the goalkeeper has become a key figure in the club’s defensive solidity and early season momentum.
