Terrence Mashego Set for Durban City Loan Move from Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Terrence Mashego is on the verge of completing a loan switch to Durban City, with an official announcement expected soon. KickOff has learned that both clubs have reached an agreement on a season-long loan for the 29-year-old, who has already traveled to KwaZulu-Natal to finalise the move.
Mashego joined Sundowns from Cape Town City in 2022, but regular game time has been difficult to secure. His stint at Chloorkop has been marked by fierce competition in the left-back position, where he has had to contend with established players such as Aubrey Modiba and Devine Lunga. The arrivals of Asekho Tiwani from Sekhukhune United and Bafana Bafana international Faawaz Basadien further limited his opportunities.
Despite his well-known pace and ability to attack down the wing, Mashego has not managed to cement a permanent starting spot. With Miguel Cardoso now leading Sundowns, the defender’s chances of consistent minutes diminished further, making a temporary move necessary.
Durban City, under the guidance of veteran coach Gavin Hunt, have stepped ahead of other interested sides including Sekhukhune United and Siwelele FC. Sources indicate that only minor details remain before the deal is confirmed.
The move provides Mashego with an important opportunity to revive his career. Once regarded as one of the most sought-after left-backs in South African football, he will now aim to prove his value again and earn regular playing time.
For Durban City, the acquisition of a player with Mashego’s experience and pedigree strengthens their defensive options while adding an attacking dimension from the back. For Mashego, the loan spell could be the reset he needs to re-establish himself in the top flight.
