Thabiso Kutumela Signs for AmaZulu After Richards Bay Exit

Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Thabiso Kutumela has completed a move to AmaZulu FC ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season. The 32-year-old striker joined Usuthu on a free transfer after parting ways with Richards Bay FC at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

AmaZulu confirmed the signing through an official statement, highlighting Kutumela’s experience and proven track record in South African football. The attacker expressed his excitement at finally joining the Durban-based side, revealing that the club had shown interest in him years ago while he was still at Maritzburg United.

“I am so happy that this move has finally come about. This was not the first time AmaZulu showed interest in me. I remember back when I was at Maritzburg United before joining Sundowns, they enquired about my services. It didn’t happen then, but I’m glad it has materialised now,” Kutumela said.

The forward also shared his ambitions for the upcoming season, underlining his hunger to contribute both on and off the pitch. “My aim is to help the team win trophies and finish higher on the log than last season. In football, anything is possible, and every team has its objectives. Mine is to play my part in achieving them.”

Kutumela brings valuable PSL experience to AmaZulu, having previously turned out for Orlando Pirates, Baroka FC, Maritzburg United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and most recently, Richards Bay. Known for his sharp finishing and versatility in attack, he is expected to provide AmaZulu with much-needed firepower as they push for a stronger league campaign.

AmaZulu finished mid-table in the 2024/25 season and have been active in the transfer market to strengthen their squad. Kutumela’s arrival is seen as a statement of intent as the club looks to challenge for a top-eight finish and possibly domestic silverware.

With the new season fast approaching, all eyes will be on how Kutumela adapts to his new surroundings and whether he can rediscover the form that once made him one of the most sought-after attackers in the PSL.
