The Skipper Turns 35
Downs’ influential skipper and 9-year club veteran turns 35 years old today, a feat the Zebediela-born midfielder has taken in his stride, as he continues to lead the 9 times PSL Champions with pride and ambition.
The evergreen Kekana, who recently put pen to paper on a new four-year deal that will see him remain at Chloorkop beyond his 39th birthday, has flourished under Mosimane’s guidance and has become one of the clubs most decorated Captains.
The move from Mamelodi Sundowns signifies the important role the Skipper will play in the club’s future and the faith Coach Pitso Mosimane has in him.
The Bafana Bafana international has made over 300 first-team appearances for the Brazilians since joining the club in 2011. During his nine years of service thus far, the former SuperSport United star has won four Absa Premiership titles, two Telkom Knockout cups, one Nedbank Cup, the CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup, and also featured at the FIFA Club World Cup in 2016.
Kekana has once again featured heavily in Mosimane’s team this campaign, contributing four goals while providing six assists across all competitions this season.
