Thembela Sikhakhane Looking Forward to New Season for AmaZulu! The Usuthu right back enjoyed a terrific season in the previous campaign.
Thembela Sikhakhane helped AmaZulu to a steady 2nd place finish in the DSTV Premiership last year. As a result, he is looking forward to the challenges that they will face in the new campaign.
Sikhakhane spent the last three seasons on loan at AmaZulu from Orlando Pirates. This meant that the end of the season always saw him travel back to Johannesburg.
However, he has signed a permanent contract with AmaZulu, meaning that he can focus on his first full pre-season with Usuthu.
He credits last season’s second place finish to the introduction of coach Benni McCarthy and his coaching staff. He says that they were able to creative such a positive vibe at training.
“Our coaches played a huge role obviously in our success.” He told the club media.
“The experience Coach Benni and his technical team brought was great. It was a work of unity and understanding.
“They taught us a lot. We all enjoyed working with them,” the jubilant Sikhakhane added.
The new AmaZulu coaching staff includes the likes of Siyabonga Nomvethe and Moeneeb Josephs. Both having represented Bafana Bafana at FIFA World Cup levels.
“The vibe at training was awesome last season. It was a lovely environment.
“Even when the coach would say let us call it a day after a session you would hear players moaning and wanting to keep going.”
“The way training was such a great vibe, even when we had come from a 5-day off, after just 2 days the guys would be saying they miss training. That is how nice it was at training.”
“What made it all nice was that we were winning matches and could still enjoy ourselves at training. The coach made sure that we had fun and competing for places which is what made us perform,” he said.
