Two African Clubs Circle as Nasreddine Nabi’s Future at Kaizer Chiefs Remains Uncertain

The uncertainty surrounding Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi continues, with reports suggesting that two major African clubs are closely monitoring his situation. The Tunisian tactician has been absent from the Chiefs’ first team since their 3-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United in September, fueling speculation about his next move.

Chiefs previously confirmed that they were in discussions with Nabi over what they called an “internal matter.” Since then, no official statement has been made about his status or possible return to the technical area.

Sources close to the situation in East Africa have revealed that Tanzanian Premier League champions Young Africans (Yanga SC) and Libyan giants Al Ahly Tripoli are both interested in securing Nabi’s services. Both clubs are reportedly considering changes in their coaching setups, and Nabi’s availability has made him a prime target.

A reliable source told Soccer Laduma that Nabi’s credentials remain intact despite earlier reports from South Africa claiming his coaching license had expired. “His license is not expired as Chiefs said. He is in Tanzania. Anytime he could join either Young Africans or Al Ahly Tripoli,” the source said.

The source also confirmed that Yanga are actively seeking a new coach. “Two coaches are candidates on the verge of joining them. The team is not playing well, with only one draw in their last five matches.”

Yanga, under the management of Romain Folz, have endured an inconsistent start to their Tanzanian Premier League campaign. Though it is still early in the season, internal pressure has reportedly mounted to address the team’s dip in form. Nabi’s strong reputation in East Africa, following his previous success with Yanga, makes him a logical option should they decide to part ways with Folz.

Nabi previously guided Yanga to domestic dominance and continental respect before moving to South Africa to take charge of Kaizer Chiefs. His tenure at Amakhosi, however, has been marked by administrative challenges and mixed results. The uncertainty surrounding his position has left fans and analysts questioning whether he will see out the season at Naturena.

Until Nabi and Chiefs officially part ways, he cannot take up a new role. However, both Yanga and Al Ahly Tripoli are believed to be monitoring the situation closely, prepared to move swiftly should he become available.

For now, Kaizer Chiefs remain tight-lipped, and Nabi’s next step remains unclear. Whether he stays to resolve matters with the Soweto giants or returns to familiar territory in East Africa, his future will likely be decided in the coming weeks.

Nabi’s next move could have significant implications for both Chiefs and the African coaching landscape, as one of the continent’s most respected tacticians weighs his options amid growing interest from abroad.
