Tyrell Malacia Joins PSV Eindhoven from Manchester United on Loan with Option to Buy
Tyrell Malacia has completed a move from Manchester United to PSV Eindhoven on loan for the remainder of the season, with the Dutch club having an option to buy the full-back at the end of the deal. The move marks Malacia’s return to the Netherlands after just over a year at Old Trafford, where his time at Manchester United has been marred by injuries and limited playing time.
Malacia, who joined Manchester United from Feyenoord in 2022, was initially linked with a move to Portuguese giants Benfica in recent weeks. However, negotiations between the two clubs reportedly broke down due to a failure to reach an agreement on the terms of the loan deal. This left the door open for PSV Eindhoven to step in and secure the Dutch international on a short-term deal.
Reports indicate that PSV Eindhoven will cover Malacia’s full salary for the duration of his loan spell, and the deal includes an option for the club to buy the player for €10 million (£8m). The option to buy, however, is not mandatory, and Manchester United will also retain a 30% sell-on clause in the event that PSV decides to move Malacia on in the future.
Malacia’s move to PSV presents an opportunity for the defender to rediscover his form in his home country after a tough period at Manchester United, where he struggled with injuries and missed a significant portion of the previous season. His time at the Premier League club has been challenging, but the loan move to PSV could provide a fresh start for the 24-year-old.
As for Manchester United, the club has already lined up a replacement for Malacia, confirming the signing of 20-year-old left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for a reported fee of £25 million ($31m/€30m) plus additional add-ons. The arrival of Dorgu is expected to bolster the left-back position at Old Trafford, further reducing Malacia’s chances of making a significant impact at the club.
For PSV, the addition of Malacia represents a significant boost to their defensive options as they look to strengthen their squad. The move also allows Malacia to continue his development in a familiar environment, where he will have the chance to prove himself and potentially secure a permanent move back to the Netherlands.
