Vusumuzi Vilakazi Proud of Team Effort Despite Defeat! Abafana Bes’thende lost to Masandawana over the weekend.

Golden Arrows lost 2-1 away to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DSTV Premiership on Sunday night. Co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi was proud of the dogged fight from his charges.

Arrows certainly merited all the credit they received from the encounter. They scored through Pule Mmodi but conceded a penalty and scored an own goal.

“I think we gave it a good fight,” Vilakazi said to SuperSport TV after the win.

“Obviously, we wanted to stick to the structure and make it very difficult for them to penetrate us and stuff like that.

“And I think we managed to do it better but lost concentration in crucial areas, penalty – we gave away a penalty which was just unnecessary if the keeper just stepped forward it could’ve been avoided.

“But it’s water under the bridge and also an own goal from us. But we fought because we knew very well that they want an appetite of finding the spaces just behind us.

“And we didn’t want to give them that space, we tried by all means to frustrate them with a defensive structure that was proper. But also, we knew that we would get chances in terms of going forward but we still needed to be clinical in front of goals.

“But it just was not meant to be. But I’m happy with the fight, effort from the players. We fought from the word go till the end,”
