Ghana plays against Portugal in their 2022 FIFA World Cup opener this evening. CAF President Patrice Motsepe visited their camp ahead of the crunch fixture.
African teams have not fared greatly so far in the showpiece event. North Africans Tunisia and Morocco have both played to scoreless draws while Senegal and Cameroon have both lost.
The continent is yet to register a goal in the competition. Ghana will be hoping to upset Portugal today.
In recent World Cups, The Black Stars have proven to be the best African representatives. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, they famously reached the quarterfinals and were very close to reaching the semi-finals.
In Portugal, they face opposition they faced in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“First of all, thank you very much Mr President. We don’t take it for granted that you came by to visit us,” Ghana coach Otto Addo addressed Patrice Motsepe.
“It’s a great great honour for us to host you, even though it is short. This is really inspiring for us. For all the players for all the staff.
“I can assure you that they are working hard, off the pitch and working really hard on the pitch. And I’m very confident that we won’t disappoint our nation and also, Africa.
“Ghana has shown in the past, that they compete at the highest level. And when I see these boys training and how they played in recent games, I strongly believe that we can do some miracles,” Addo added.
They also have Uruguay and South Korea in what seems to be a tough group. Watch: Patrice Motsepe Visits Ghana Team Ahead of Portugal Match!
