WATCH! Steve Khompela Teasing Andile Jali

Andile Jali and Steve Khompela seem to have a beyond working relationship, a father-son relationship. Khompela is from Free State, meaning he’s likely to be speaking SeSotho, however, he also speaks Jali’s language – IsiXhosa.

This time around he was teasing him, calling him “kwedini” which in IsiXhosa means a “young boy”. He was presenting ” AJ15″ with the three accolades that he won in the Premier Soccer League Awards at the end of the previous season.

Jali won MTN Last Man Standing, Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament, and DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season. Now, Masandawana are back for pre-season as they’re preparing to try and defend the three domestic trophies they won last season.

JALI ON WINNING AWARDS

“I am very excited to be recognized for my determination and passion for the team. These awards would not have been made possible without my teammates and the coaching crew,” he told Sundowns Media.

“At a club like Sundowns, you must be ready to compete for trophies at the highest level,” he continued.

“Therefore, it is critical to build one’s fitness because of the number of games the team plays every season. I am glad that I was able to stay strong and competitive throughout the campaign”

RULANI MOKWENA HEAPS PRAISE ON JALI

In the middle of the previous season, Downs co-coach Rulani Mokwena was already tipping Jali for the Footballer of the Season award. When the season ended he reminded SA of what he said a long time ago.

“You have to give me a little bit more of just a couple of minutes we have because not just about today but an entire season,” Mokwena told SuperSport after the game. A couple of months [ago] I asked South Africa and the media why are we not starting this debate about Footballer of the Season.

“The performance has been indicative of the personality, a couple of years ago they called him the ‘Napoleon’, the ‘Dynamo’ and that’s what he showed, his leadership qualities, his tenacity and just his overall experience and his ability to assist the team in difficult moments, so we’re very fortunate to have him and the entire group you know, ‘AJ’ is just a reflection of the entire group.”
