Mamelodi Sundowns were defeated 2-1 by SuperSport United in the DSTV Premiership on Friday night. Co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi claims that they should have won the match.

The match statistics could favour the arguments made by Mngqithi. The champions created many clear-cut opportunities which they did not take.

Particularly in the first half. However, the visitors scored twice in the first stanza through Thapelo Maseko and Bradley Grobler.

Striker Abubeker Nassir halved the deficit late into the match, but it was too little too late for the champions.

“I just think we were very wasteful today,” Mngqithi told SuperSport TV.

“First half we created a lot of chances. Far more chances than what we created in the previous match.

“But we were just not clinical enough and very lethargic defensively. Allowing crosses to come into the box and still not take the people that are on the far side.

“And we knew every time they break out, they go to the channel and the good thing is that we’ll have somebody to immediately try to put pressure on the ball.

“But if you still allow a cross from there, then you know the opposite side is open and our centre-backs did not pick up very well.” He concluded.

Masandawana have had a lacklustre start to the season, in their own high standards. They have lost twice and sit in fourth place on the table.
