Willard Katsande Equals Longstanding Tinashe Nengomasha Record At Kaizer Chiefs! The Zimbabwean veteran made his 325th appearance for Amakhosi over the weekend.
This means that Willard Katsande has levelled the record set by Zimbabwean compatriot as the foreign player with the most appearances for Kaizer Chiefs. This landmark came in another landmark game as Chiefs got the better of Wydad Casablanca.
Kaizer Chiefs defeated Wydad Casablanca 1-0 on aggregate on the CAF Champions League semi-final on Saturday. They will now take on Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League final on the 17th of July in Morocco.
Katsande was quick to remember how difficult they found the CAF Champions League at the beginning of the season.
“The funny and interesting thing about this CAF campaign is that we carried the underdog tag from day one until now, people never gave us a chance,” he tells Kaizer Chiefs’ media department.
“We started our CAF campaign in the middle of a rough patch, when we were not doing well in the league. We won narrowly away and managed to keep a clean sheet at home to get a result and sneak through.
“In my time at the club, we’ve played in the Champions League on a number of occasions. Even with all the experience and the number of international players we had, we had always gone out in the preliminary round or the first round.
“We really wanted to get into the group stages this time around. And we used the experience of our previous CAF disappointments to keep on learning and plugging away,” he says.
They now have about three weeks to effectively prepare for the CAF Champions League final against current reigning champions Al Ahly. Willard Katsande Equals Longstanding Tinashe Nengomasha Record At Kaizer Chiefs!
