“You Can Always Count on Mothobi” – Hugo Broos! These are the sentiments of the national team head coach.

Hugo Broos has claimed that Mothobi Mvala is an ever-reliable player. This is after the performance he put in last weekend.

Bafana Bafana defeated Morocco 2-1 in their final AFCON Qualifier last week Saturday. Mothobi Mvala was deployed in defence for the match, where he has been playing for Mamelodi Sundowns since the turn of the year.

The former defensive midfielder has been constantly criticised for his lack of technical ability, both in midfield and in defence. Despite these criticisms, he is a regular for both club and country, to the collective dismay of many in the football fraternity.

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos insists that he is a dependable player, despite his technical abilities, or lack thereof.

“You know you can always count on Mothobi,” Broos told the media last weekend.

“He is a guy with fantastic mentality. He’s maybe not the best player in the team but with such a mentality, he’s an example for everyone.

“I said before he was playing in the midfield: for me it was a guy for which I always counted on and now I’m playing him in defence and it’s just the same. You know what you have with him, and with Siyanda [Xulu], it’s a good [partnership] there and the rest of defence.

“But Mothobi is Mothobi. Don’t ask him for technically fantastic things.

“But he has the mentality. He’s a real example for everyone in the team.” The head coach lamented.

The defender won his third successive DSTV Premiership title with Mamelodi Sundowns this season. “You Can Always Count on Mothobi” – Hugo Broos!
