Zungu Responds To Transfer Rumours

Bongani Zungu has finally responded to transfer rumours that are linking him to Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

“Ben 10” as he’s affectionately known has returned to South Africa after completing a season at Amiens SC in the French Ligue two. His contract is expiring on 30 June and it remains to be seen where his next home will be.

Masandawana who are the former employers of “Ben 10” are believed to have launched a bid for Zungu. His first stint with the Brazilians ended in 2016 when he was transferred to Portugal’s Victoria Guimaraes.

While Chiefs haven’t made any bid as far as Zungu comments are concerned. Zungu says he’s looking to get a long-term contract as he hopes that it will be the last deal he signs in his football career.

“I’m very calm. As I said earlier, this is a very, very important part of my football career. For me, I want it to be maybe my last contract of my career,” he said on Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube.

“Whether abroad or at home.”

He is said to have offers in Europe and in his interview with Ncube, he revealed that locally it’s only the Brazilians who have made formal contact with his agent.

“I met president Motsepe the other year and he told me Sundowns will always be home,” he added.

“So Sundowns will always be my home, no matter what happens from now until when I make my decision on where I’m gonna play.

“Sundowns is the only team that spoke to my agent and they are speaking to my agent still. Others are trying to [as well].”

As far as Chiefs’ interest is concerned, Zungu said: “I’m a top player, of course teams are going to try and find out what’s your situation and all. My phone is open, I’m listening to [offers].”

While Zungu is still seeking a new home on the club level, Bafana Bafana coach has been overlooking him when selecting the squad and he has explained why he’s been leaving him out.

“I see what happened (with him) in France. I am very sorry, but this is not a guy who has to be with our group – for the moment,” Broos said after announcing the squad on SABC.

“I don’t speak only about his qualities as a player, but when you see the troubles he had with Amiens this year, he didn’t play in half of the games because there was trouble.

“It was not because he was not good enough but because there were troubles. Three or four months ago, the trainer and the chairman of the club wanted to get him away.

“What is important is the attitude and the mentality of the player. One player can mess up everything because he doesn’t have the right mentality.

“For the moment, I will not pick Zungu because when I see what happened at Amiens, it can happen here and that I don’t want.”

Sundowns might be advantageous in securing his services considering that he has been with the club before and their financial muscle.
