SAFA were heavily rumoured to be in talks with Carlos Quieroz, Pitso Mosimane and Benni McCarthy for the vacant job. The post became vacant after Molefi Ntseki was relieved of his duties in March.

3. He was a player in the Belgian league for over 10 years. He represented prestigious teams such as RSC Anderlecht and Club Brugge.

5. He was part of the Belgium squad which finished fourth at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. He played as Belgium infamously lost to a Diego Maradona inspired Argentina.
6. As a manager, Hugo Broos has won 3 Belgian league titles.
7. He has also won the Belgian Cup twice.
8. Broos famously led Cameroon to the 2017 AFCON trophy.
