Spain defeated Norway 3-0 in their first match of the UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers. They now top the group after the opening round.
Spain 3:0 Norway – UEFA Euro Qualifiers
This was Spain’s first match since the disappointment of the 2022 FIFA World Cup where they lost to Morocco in the round of 16. It was also the first match of new head coach Luis De La Fuente, who took over from Luis Enrique.
Dani Olmo opened the scoring in the first half. Substitute Joselu scored two quick second half goals to seal the win.
“First of all, I want to thank Málaga, the club and the city; it’s emotional thinking of how they’ve welcomed us for this match.” De La Fuente told UEFA.
“We tried to use the few days before this match to fix ideas and systems, and therefore I’m pretty satisfied with what we’ve achieved.
“More than nerves, it’s about learning to work together. Sometimes you put together a great game but win by the minimum because the ball won’t go in.
“But when the team gets a late surge like this, then magnificent
“All I try to do is get the best out of my players, all of whom have different profiles. I’m not sure that we need to say that we’ve suddenly got a ‘Plan B’; it’s just that the players we include in the squad have different qualities, varied characteristics and, in certain parts of the match, we’ll use them.
“We’re not better or worse than what went before – we just need to do our very best.” He added.
