Nasreddine Nabi Regrets Missed Chance as Kaizer Chiefs Draw with Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi expressed frustration after his side played to a goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League on Wednesday night. The result prevented Amakhosi from claiming their fourth consecutive win of the 2025/26 season.
Chiefs have made a strong start to the campaign with three wins and a draw in four games, maintaining a perfect defensive record. Their improved organisation at the back has ensured they have not conceded a goal so far this season.
Against Sundowns, the Soweto giants dominated much of the game. They pressed aggressively from the first whistle, moved into the final third repeatedly, and created scoring opportunities. However, a lack of composure and finishing prevented them from converting chances into goals. Sundowns struggled to match Chiefs’ intensity and were largely contained.
Nabi admitted his disappointment at not securing all three points. “It’s true, it’s kind of a frustration because we believed that we could’ve got the three points, but there was a good team in front of us,” he said. “We have a little bit of regret about not getting the three points, but we’re going to work and look for the future.”
He explained the tactical approach used during the match. “In the first half we struggled a little bit, but we wanted to leave the possession to the opponents because we know that it’s not a team that finishes well this game. In the second half, with the tactical adjustment in the midfield, it allowed us to be a little higher, press more, and stay on the front-foot. We had opportunities, but unfortunately, we couldn’t convert them.”
Despite the draw, Nabi remains confident in the team’s direction. “It’s true that we haven’t lost yet this season, but we believe that today we could’ve got more. We are pretty sure that we are on the right direction and going to work more and be better for the next game,” he added.
Chiefs are currently joint top of the PSL table with Sekhukhune United, with goal difference separating the sides. They will look to return to winning ways on Saturday against Lamontville Golden Arrows, a team that has shown inconsistent form this season.
The performance against Sundowns highlighted both Chiefs’ potential and areas for improvement, particularly in converting chances. Nabi’s comments suggest the squad is focused on maintaining momentum and building on their positive start to the campaign.
