Mamelodi Sundowns Coach Miguel Cardoso Reveals Halftime Message in 3-0 Victory Over Magesi FC

Mamelodi Sundowns returned to the top of the DStv Premiership table on Sunday afternoon with a convincing 3-0 win over Magesi FC. A brace from Iqraam Rayners and a goal from Kutlwano Letlhaku sealed the points for the reigning champions, who continue to juggle a demanding schedule across multiple competitions.

Speaking after the match, head coach Miguel Cardoso opened up on what he told his players during halftime. Sundowns had taken control of the game but lacked the cutting edge in the first half, something the coach felt needed to be addressed immediately.

“The message at halftime was a little bit strong, but it had to be to wake up and mission done,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV. “We were not satisfied, especially with the front players. Sometimes we think about things we would like to do but cannot. We have to protect the players we need to protect and use the ones we can use. The result was done, but we could have scored the second earlier to manage the game better.”

Cardoso stressed the importance of managing the squad effectively as Sundowns continue to fight on many fronts. With league matches, cup fixtures, and continental commitments piling up, rotation and fitness are central to the Brazilians’ campaign. “Managing the team and players is very important. The ones on the bench could not immediately enter, so we had to manage the situation carefully,” he added.

The afternoon brought a worrying moment when Themba Zwane, who had recently returned from injury, limped off after coming on as a substitute. Cardoso provided an update but remained cautious. “As I understand from the doctor, it’s not the same thing he had before. Let’s hope it’s nothing serious,” he said.

The victory not only restored Sundowns to the summit of the table but also underlined the depth of quality in the squad. With Rayners in fine scoring form and Letlhaku contributing as well, Cardoso’s men look prepared for the challenges ahead.

For now, Sundowns will focus on maintaining their momentum while carefully managing player fitness. The balance between chasing results and protecting key players will remain central as the season intensifies.
