Kaizer Chiefs Co-Coach Ben Youssef Highlights Attack Struggles

Kaizer Chiefs’ stand-in co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has addressed the team’s ongoing difficulties in attack, citing challenges in the final third as the main issue. Since their opening-day 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC, Chiefs have scored more than once in only one of their eight matches across all competitions.

Ben Youssef pointed out that while the team creates numerous chances, converting them has remained a problem. “The only problem that we have up to now is the last third. We create a lot of opportunities in every game, but we are in a situation where we don’t score a lot of goals,” he said. He referenced the recent game against Marumo Gallants, where Chiefs failed to convert three clear chances after scoring the opening goal, leaving the team vulnerable to a comeback.

The co-coach stressed that the issue is not limited to one player or department. “We don’t see departments, we see it as a team always. How the offensive assimilation of the team and the defensive assimilation of the team is,” Ben Youssef explained. He also highlighted frustration in matches where the team loses focus, noting the Polokwane City game as an example where players’ lack of concentration affected their finishing.

Ben Youssef outlined a clear path for improvement, emphasizing training and technical work. “We focus on everything, but we are more thinking about the last third, the technical decision for the player, the last pass, how we can shoot when we shoot. I think we have to work a lot in this,” he said. He added that analyzing examples from high-level football and repeating exercises in training are key steps toward resolving the issue.

The Chiefs co-coach concluded that the solution lies in persistence and preparation. “The only thing to do is to work until everything can be fixed,” he said, signaling that sustained focus in training will be central to improving the team’s attacking efficiency.

Chiefs’ struggle to convert chances has drawn attention from fans and analysts alike, and Ben Youssef’s comments highlight the club’s commitment to addressing the problem ahead of upcoming fixtures.
