Al Ahly defeated Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca. Pitso Mosimane’s men have now won the CAF Champions League for a record extending 10th time.

They have also won to successive CAF Champions League titles. This has been Mosimane’s 5th trophy since taking over late 2020.

They are looking to add more silverware on the domestic front before the Egyptian season concludes.

The first half of the CAF Champions League was an extremely tight affair. Both teams were not keen on giving too much away to the opposition.

Although Al Ahly was expected to dominate the game from the get-go, they could not get a stranglehold of a resilient Kaizer Chiefs. The first half ended at 0-0.

However, Al Ahly received a boost before the end of the first stanza when Happy Mashiane got his marching order. This was for a reckless tackle on Akram Tawfik.

The second half began at 0-0, with the Egyptians boosted by their numerical advantage. It took only 8 minutes of the second half for the numerical advantage to be capitalised by Al Ahly.

Mohamed Sherif scored in the 53rd minute with a lovely chip over Daniel Akpeyi. This was the first goal that the Nigerian conceded in the tournament.

11 minutes later the game was put further away from the grasp of Kaizer Chiefs when Mohamed Magdy Afsha’s curling strike went into the top corner. The game looked all but done and dusted.

Amr El Soulia capitalised on more defensive errors by Chiefs and made it 3-0 in the 74th minute. This is how the game ended, as Kaizer Chiefs failed to create any meaningful opportunities.
