AmaZulu set to overlook Baxter and keep Truter as coach

AmaZulu are reportedly set to hand Brandon Truter a head coach position. Truter was appointed as an interim coach after the firing of Benni McCarthy in March.

Since he took over, Truter has won three, and drawn three of the six games that Usuthu have played. It seems like these results were enough to convince AmaZulu’s management to have trust in Truter.

Truter is understood to have been shortlisted for the job with the former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter. Another name that was rumoured to have appeared was Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Steve Khompela.

According to Phakaaathi source, there is a contract waiting for Truter to sign after the positivity he brought to the club.

“He is a very disciplined guy, they know him, the players know him and the guys at the back love him,” a Phakaaathi source commented. “He has been able to bring some positive vibes at the club, so the management know him as well.

“What I know is that there is a contract that is waiting for him, it has already been drafted and everybody is just waiting for him to sign.

“Anyway, one can see the positive things. Coach Truter has been the light at the club. We have been doing well and I don’t think there is any reason in going out to find a new coach when he is already here.”

Truter also said he was confident to keep the job and revealed that they’re having talks with the club. When he was appointed as an interim coach Truter said coaching AmaZulu was a “dream job”. “We are having talks on Tuesday, ” Truter said as per The South African.

“Currently, it looks positive, it’s three wins and three draws, no goals conceded and no losses as well. For now, I’m feeling confident and God willing I will have the job. We are in the process of planning pre-season and setting up camps and with my input as well, so it looks very positive.”

“Yes, I want to make it as difficult as possible for other coaches to apply. Of course I have the privilege of the interview while I’m at the club. I think that counts in my favour and God willing, if I get the job, for me it might be easy because I know the structure and I know what the club is about and we can start the pre-season hitting the ground running.”
