The away side needed to win by at least two goals to advance to the next stage, after losing at home in the first leg. Eric Choupo-Moting fired Bayern ahead in the second half, after a defensive error from the visitors.
Serge Gnabry doubled their lead and killed the tie as a contest.
“We brought the intensity throughout the whole game.” Midfielder Jamal Musiala told UEFA.
“In the second half as well [we] started very strongly. We didn’t let them get time on the ball in the final third. [Kylian] Mbappé, [Lionel] Messi, we know what they are capable of, and we controlled the game better.
“I think overall it was just a good game from us. [At halftime] we went through some tactical things that we could change up a bit. We just had to up our intensity. When we do that, we’re very difficult to beat.
“I think in our heads we have the mentality that we can win this tournament we just have to take it game by game and keep improving going forward.” The youngster added.
Thomas Muller produced a man of the match performance.
“In a game like that, there are always moments when you need to suffer and create a little luck.” The veteran spoke.
“We were more controlled in our defending in the second half. We played the better game and ultimately deserved to win.”
