AmaZulu drew 2-2 away to Golden Arrows in the DSTV Premiership yesterday. Benni McCarthy lambasts the result as he feels it is a missed opportunity to go up the league table.
It was an end-to-end game which weirdly enough saw no goals from open play. Both teams scored a penalty each and from a corner kick each.
Xola Mlambo gave AmaZulu the lead in the first half. The lead was cancelled by a Knox Mutizwa penalty for Arrows after Tsepo Masilela was judged for handling the ball in the penalty area.
Matome Mathiane scored for Arrows with a leaping header to give them the lead. AmaZulu were awarded a penalty and Bongi Ntuli scored for his first league goal of the season.
“It was a very entertaining game. But I think it was an opportunity missed for us,” Benni McCarthy told SuperSport TV.
“We played extremely well. We started the game really well with a high tempo.
“Good chances were created. We hit the target and we also looked like a team that was always looking like it was going to score.
“Unfortunately, it was one of those days where every shot or long ball landed perfectly where the goalkeeper was positioned.
“He was able to make a save with his legs or fingers to prevent us from extending our lead. I really liked what I saw from the team – the mentality, the work ethic.
“Sometimes when we had our backs against the wall, we never gave up. We continued to dig in there and we turned the game around.” He added.
