Cape Town Spurs Suffer Another Blow as Neil Boshoff Eyes Move Away Following Relegation

Cape Town Spurs’ downward spiral continues as they face another significant player departure ahead of the 2025/2026 season. Goalkeeper Neil Boshoff has confirmed he is actively seeking a new club following the team’s demotion to the ABC Motsepe League — South Africa’s amateur football level.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper, who boasts experience from stints at AmaZulu FC and Richards Bay FC, is now a free agent after his contract with Spurs expired at the end of last season. With the club failing to secure promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Boshoff’s contract clause for renewal was nullified, forcing him to weigh up his options elsewhere.

“I’m still looking to see where I might end up,” Boshoff told KickOff. “I hoped to stay in Cape Town, but I’m uncertain at the moment. I’m currently a free agent and exploring my options.”

Spurs, once a competitive force, have now lost several key players since their relegation. Promising talents Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi have already signed for Kaizer Chiefs, signalling the beginning of a player exodus at Ikamva.

Boshoff has made it clear that a return to amateur football is not on his agenda. “Spurs are still trying to regain their status in the NFD, so we’ll see how that unfolds. However, I definitely want to play in the NFD or PSL,” he emphasized.

While the club explores the possibility of acquiring a status to rejoin the professional ranks, Boshoff is wasting no time. “I’ve been reaching out, but nothing concrete has materialized yet — it has only been discussions so far,” he explained. “I’ve been hoping that the club might buy a status, but there’s been no progress. I need to find a team to support my family.”

Reflecting on the team’s unfortunate relegation, Boshoff expressed his disappointment. “Of course, the relegation still hurts. We were playing some beautiful football, but we just couldn’t get the results. It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t finish strong.”

Cape Town Spurs now face the tough task of rebuilding from the amateur level while trying to retain what little is left of their squad. For Boshoff, the goal is clear — to remain in professional football, whether in the Betway Premiership or the Motsepe Foundation Championship. As the transfer window remains open, his next move will be closely watched.
