Cassius Mailula Secures Loan Move to KV Kortrijk

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cassius Mailula has found a new home in Belgium. The 24-year-old has completed a loan move to KV Kortrijk from Toronto FC, with the deal running until the end of the season. The Belgian club has also included an option to make the transfer permanent.

Mailula, who had a stint on loan at Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca last season, returns to European football after featuring in the FIFA Club World Cup before rejoining Toronto FC. His latest move represents a significant step in his career as he looks to establish himself in one of Europe’s competitive leagues.

In their official statement, KV Kortrijk expressed confidence in their new signing. “KV Kortrijk is pleased to announce the arrival of South African Cassius Mailula (24). The quick and agile attacking midfielder will join our club until the end of the season,” the club announced.

Mailula brings versatility to the Belgian side, capable of operating both as a striker and in attacking midfield roles. His technical ability, pace, and eye for goal were on display during his breakthrough at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he earned a reputation as one of South Africa’s brightest young talents.

Sporting Director Nils Vanneste highlighted Mailula’s qualities, noting, “Mailula is an offensive player who can play in multiple positions.” His adaptability is expected to strengthen Kortrijk’s attack as they battle to improve their standing in the Belgian Pro League.

The move also provides Mailula with an opportunity to showcase his skills on a bigger European stage, a chance many South African players have sought to maximize their careers. For KV Kortrijk, signing a promising player with international experience could add much-needed firepower to their squad.

Mailula’s journey has taken him from the Premier Soccer League with Sundowns to Major League Soccer with Toronto FC, and now to the Belgian Pro League. With a purchase option included in the deal, consistent performances could see him secure a permanent stay in Belgium.

This latest chapter offers Mailula the platform to prove himself against European competition while keeping South African football firmly on the international radar.
