Ex-SuperSport United Goalkeeper On Whether Williams To Sundowns Is Good Or Bad Move

Ex-SuperSport United Goalkeeper On Whether Williams To Sundowns Is Good Or Bad Move. SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams is reportedly close to joining Mamelodi Sundowns. The rumours of a potential move of the goalkeeper to his crosstown rivals began just after the past season was completed.

It’s no longer a secret that Williams wants to leave the club as he feels that his career is ready for change. Diski365 reported a few weeks ago that the shot-stopper revealed that he doesn’t foresee himself achieving the dreams he has at Matsatsantsa.

Williams has been one of the main subjects when it comes to the transfer windows over the past few years. With all the rumours indicating that he would move to one of the big three clubs, it would all just vanish into thin air with him committing to his childhood club.

As per SABC Sport, Williams expressed his burning desire to join Mamelodi Sundowns – the homies of his current club. Now, former SuperSport United goalie Brendan Wardle says it could be a “bad move” as it would threaten his place at Bafana.

“Are they guaranteeing Ronwen that he is going to be playing week in and week out? I think he is making a bad move,” Brendan Wardle told KickOff.

“It is a bad move for him to be where he is not guaranteed of being number one when he is our Bafana Bafana first choice. What is going to happen now in the national team when he is sitting on the bench at Sundowns? Will he not become frustrated being in a position that he is not used to even though the pay cheque is good?

“Maybe let us watch from a distance and not become negative about this situation but then what happened to George Maluleka. At Sundowns competition is high. I mean look at how Kennedy performs whenever he plays. He is still a top keeper. Who will they push out because the other two Ricardo and Reyaad are also up there with the best.

“So, as it is one of the keepers will have to ask to be loaned out because they are young and still want to play. Onyango and Kennedy have achieved all there is in football so I’m thinking that the club is planning ahead.

“If he didn’t take the advice from Andre (Arendse) then he will put a bullet on his head because Andre was there when they brought in Brian Baloyi. He is going to Sundowns for the sake of winning trophies. Who doesn’t want to be associated with winning league titles? He also wants to end his career having won league trophies.

“You get a good salary there, but trouble is that once they let go of you other teams are afraid of signing you because you will now be taking a pay cut and you are no longer used to that,” said Wardle.
