Eric Tinkler: “The Brand Of Football Has Been Very Good”
Eric Tinkler the Orlando Pirates coach believes that his team reached CAF confederations cup finals in style, as they were playing entertaining football for the supporters. Bucs will compete against the Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel for the CAF confederations trophy in a two legged match next month. Orlando Pirates won against teams like AC Leopards, Al Ahly and the other Tunisian club CS Sfaxien before they reach the finals.
“I think the brand of football has been very good. I don’t think people will complain because the games have been entertaining if anything,” Tinkler told Soccer Laduma.
“Good for the fans when we lost 4-1, not good for us. Good for the fans when Zamalek lost 5-1 and if you look at our results against Al-Ahly and it is 4-3, it is an entertaining game,” he says, referring to the semi-final win last weekend.
“And that’s good for football when we see goals. If it is a good advert for football in general, I think it is particularly for CAF competition because as South Africans we need to take these competitions a lot more seriously. I don’t think we do and how do we do that? By producing entertaining football. I think that’s how we do it and that will draw the crowds to be more interested in these competitions.”
“It’s been a long journey, in 10 months we have played a lot of games. We’ve seen a number of players, talented youngsters out there in Africa.” concluded Orlando Pirates mentor.
