Flavio Silva’s Guinea-Bissau Call-Up Faces Uncertainty Amid Angola Fixture Doubts

Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Silva’s impressive goal-scoring form has earned him a call-up to the Guinea-Bissau national team, but the opportunity to make his international debut may not materialize this month.
Silva’s inclusion in coach Emiliano Te’s final 23-man squad came as recognition for his strong performances in the Betway Premiership, where he has been one of Chiefs’ most consistent attacking threats. The team was scheduled to face Angola in a friendly on November 18 in Luanda, but that fixture is now in serious doubt.
According to reports, the Angolan Football Federation has shifted its focus to a more high-profile friendly against Argentina on November 15. The match, set to commemorate Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence from Portugal, has reportedly cost the hosts around R250 million to stage, leaving the Guinea-Bissau fixture without logistical support.
The Federação de Futebol da Guiné-Bissau (FFGB) has expressed uncertainty over the status of the match, releasing a statement that the game “can be cancelled at any moment.” Their communication cited ongoing complications in coordinating travel, accommodation, and venue arrangements as reasons for the possible cancellation.
If the friendly is officially called off, Silva will be forced to wait until March 2026 for the next FIFA international window to make his debut, assuming he is called up again. Guinea-Bissau did not qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, meaning there are no competitive fixtures scheduled in the near term.
For Silva, the development could be a setback in his growing career momentum. However, it may also serve as an advantage for Kaizer Chiefs, who are preparing for a crucial CAF Confederation Cup group stage opener against Al Masry in Egypt on November 23.
The 27-year-old striker has been a standout performer for Amakhosi this season, contributing important goals as the team continues to challenge for a top position in the Betway Premiership under co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.
While the potential cancellation is a disappointment for Silva’s international ambitions, his focus will now return to Chiefs’ continental and domestic commitments, where his form remains vital to the club’s progress.
