Former Player Delron Buckley Named Maritzburg United Caretaker Coach!
Maritzburg United Parted ways with Eric Tinkler yesterday. They are in search of their first points of the season.
Former Player Delron Buckley Named Maritzburg United Caretaker Coach! He will take charge of matches until a new head coach is announced.
As a former Maritzburg United player, the board felt that his understanding of the club will hold him in good stead for the time being.
They take on SuperSport United on Friday evening. Maritzburg sit perilously at the bottom of the table after losing every single match so far.
Despite finishing 7th and in a MTN 8 position, the club cites last season’s poor ending as a contributor to this season’s lacklustre start. Maritzburg failed to win a single match in the bio-bubble when football returned last season.
After losing key players this season, the club confirmed 6 new signings. All of them in vein as this was unable to help Coach Tinkler’s pursuit.
Buckley will look to steady the ship in his cameo role.
“It’s a normal situation when a coach goes, players start thinking about what’s going to happen,” Buckley told the club website.
“”For me now as a caretaker coach I have to boost the players’ morale. Get them motivated and get them prepared for the game on Friday.
“It’s up to the players to take the situation into their own hands,” he added on.
“It’s a do or die game and the minute they put their foot onto the pitch, they must realise that if we are going to win, we are going to have to be aggressive and challenge for every ball.
“Sometimes when the going gets tough, you can’t play pretty football. You have to play the ugly way to win games.” Buckley concluded.
