Manqoba Mngqithi Happy With Mamelodi Sundowns Victory! The Brazilians claimed a 2-0 win over Baroka FC in the DSTV Premiership yesterday.

The win was sealed in a 5 minute goal splurge. Gaston Sirino found the net on the 63rd minute and Peter Shalulile scored in the 68th minute.

Sundowns are fully aware that they survived a scare in the first half. Baroka missed two clear opportunities which they were eventually punished for not executing.

“It’s always a tough one against Baroka and for whatever reason whenever we play them at home they always give us a tough time,” Mngqithi told SuperSport TV.

“And their transitions can be very dangerous with Mgaga, Masiya and the young boy Makgopa, you saw how a handful he is, aerially he wants to win almost everything, he’s the right speciman, very quick, very tall, which gives them a little bit of an advantage.

“Our boys tried to adjust to the challenges we were facing, there were some scary moments in the first half where we did not break the press, Masiya found space behind the defence and we could see that the ball was not covered on their right centre-back Makume.

“And unfortunately he missed, but it was a very good chance and some of the tactical agreements that we put in place to say “you must be aware of this moment” they can always punish us with a second ball, they can punish us out of the wing, looking for space between the centre-backs.

“But overall I think the boys worked very hard, we wanted this result, we wanted to start the second round of the season on a high note and I think we defended very well, Denis also with their throw-ins, we were nearly caught on one of them.

“And the same Makgopa imagine him flicking the ball with Denis’ hands there so it tells you how strong the boy is aerially, he really gives them direction in their play.

“Mosele also, very dominant in midfield, a hard nut to crack which forced us to run a little bit more to try and capitalise on some areas where they were weak. But one must commend the substitutions we made, I think Kermit influenced the game, we knew what we wanted.

“We wanted someone who will give us a point of reference and somebody that gives us depth to establish play from there and that is why we managed to create the chances that we created.

“Kermit gave a very good account of himself and I was happy for Peter to score again because he’s working very hard for us but at times goals can really elude him but today he gave a very account of himself.

“I’m also impressed that we kept a clean sheet again and with two goals, it could have been better it’s still a work in progress,” he added.
