Mamelodi Sundowns were eliminated in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League this season. Defender Grant Kekana is hoping to reach a step further in the next campaign.
Masandawana were eliminated via the away goal’s rule in their Champions League semi-final encounter against Wydad Casablanca. They drew 2-2 at home in the second leg after drawing 0-0 in Morocco in the first leg.
This was more painful as they did not necessarily lose any 90 minutes but lost due to technicalities. Kekana would like to see the away goal’s rule scrapped in CAF competition, just like in UEFA competition.
“Yes, I’d definitely welcome that,” the defender told Phakaaathi.
“It’s working well in Europe, and I think we can take a lot from them and bring it to Africa as well.” He added.
He also recalled the agonising loss to Wydad Casablanca in the semi-finals this season.
“It’s obviously still fresh in our minds and we know that we were one step closer than last season so we can take positives from that,”
“We’re improving as a team and we’re still learning. It was a good challenge for this season and we’re also happy with the league, because that is the most difficult competition in the country.” He added.
