Bongani Zungu returned to South Africa from Amiens in the recent transfer window to join Mamelodi Sundowns. He has explained why he returned home.
In June this year, Bongani Zungu’s girlfriend Cindy Mahlangu gave birth to their child. It is widely reported that this is the reason he came back to the country.
“Nothing went wrong [In Europe], I made a decision with my family to come back to South Africa,” Zungu told FARPost.
“I decided to come back, I had personal reasons why I had to come back. I don’t have regrets about my career, just like anything in life, you go through ups and downs and that’s what happened with me.
“I’m not the last person to face this, other people face similar situations. But me coming back, it doesn’t mean that there was something wrong or I failed.
“People can say whatever, I’m happy. I come from nothing, I worked hard, and I worked to play in Europe.
“I came back because of personal reasons, that’s all. There’s nothing about failing.
“I’m happy, my family is proud of me, I’m proud of myself. Now I’m at [Mamelodi] Sundowns, there’s no looking back.
“I will try to help the team reach even greater heights.” He added.
Ben 10 left for Europe in 2016, to play in Portugal. He then transferred to France soon after, before joining Rangers on loan in 2020.
After his loan ended in 2021, he was reluctant to return to Amiens as they were relegated to Ligue 2 in France. He played still before his contract came to an end, joining the Brazilians on a free transfer.
He is still working to regain his fitness. “I Don’t Have Regrets About My Career” – Bongani Zungu!
