Kaizer Chiefs can finally sign new players after a FIFA imposed ban stopped them from doing so last year. It has been an eventful campaign for Chiefs, where the lack of new signings hurt them domestically.
FIFA banned Kaizer Chiefs from signing new players from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021. This is after Kaizer Chiefs had signed Madagascan midfielder Andriamirado “Dax” Andrianarimanana., despite him being still registered to another team.
FIFA did not take lightly to this and banned them for a year.
The squad was extremely hampered by this decision as they suffered greatly. After finishing a close second to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DSTV Premiership in 2019/2020 season, they could not even come close this time around.
Kaizer Chiefs finished in 8th place on the league table last season. They defeated TS Galaxy on the final day to usurp them into an MTN 8 position.
Their form in Africa has been quite the opposite. Kaizer Chiefs have qualified for the CAF Champions League final for the very first time in their long history.
They will face Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly in Casablanca on 17 July 2021.
It is an exciting time to be an Amakhosi supporter as they have also made impressive appointments at boardroom level. Kaizer Chiefs have hired Stuart Baxter (head coach), Molefi Ntseki (head of technical and youth academy and Kaizer Motaung Jr. (sporting director) recently.
They will all work together to make Kaizer Chiefs the best team in South Africa once more. They will now contest with Mamelodi Sundowns for the most prestigious awards in South Africa.
