Kaizer Chiefs’ 4-1 Win Over Orbit College Marks Rare Milestone Under Kaze and Ben Youssef

Kaizer Chiefs’ 4-1 thrashing of Orbit College FC has provided head coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef a boost of confidence, delivering a result that has been elusive in recent years. Since the duo’s appointment to stay until the end of the season, they have only been on the bench together for two Betway Premiership matches, yet have already achieved what Chiefs had not done in four years.

To find a league match where Chiefs last scored four goals, one has to go back to October 16, 2021, when they defeated Chippa United 4-0. Keagan Dolly scored twice, while Khama Billiat and Lazarous Kambole added one each, with Stuart Baxter in charge at the time.

Since then, the club has seen several managerial changes, including Arthur Zwane, Molefi Ntseki, Cavin Johnson, and Nasreddine Nabi. In over 120 league games under these coaches, Chiefs had not scored four goals in a single match. The club’s struggle for prolific scoring had been a recurring concern, with only one league win this season coming with multiple goals before Tuesday’s game.

Tuesday night’s performance was also only the fifth time in the past decade that the Naturena-based club scored four or more league goals. Other notable matches include a 5-3 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in December 2019, a 4-0 victory against Stellenbosch FC the week before, and a 4-1 triumph over Cape Town City in September 2018.

The latest win lifted Chiefs to joint-top of the Betway Premiership alongside Mamelodi Sundowns, with both clubs having played the same number of matches.

Kaze and Ben Youssef have now won both league matches they have overseen together since Nasreddine Nabi stepped aside three weeks ago. The 4-1 result not only ends a long wait for a four-goal league performance but also signals a renewed attacking threat for Amakhosi as they chase the title this season.
