Kaizer Chiefs to Send Advanced Delegation to Egypt Ahead of CAF Confederation Cup Fixtures

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has confirmed that the club will be sending an advanced delegation to Egypt ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup group stage matches against Al Masry and Zamalek. The move is designed to mirror the approach of continental regulars Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, who routinely dispatch teams ahead of crucial away fixtures to assess logistics, conditions, and operational arrangements. Chiefs were drawn in Group D alongside Zesco United, Zamalek, and Al Masry, making it one of the toughest groups in this season’s competition.

Motaung Jr explained that sending an advance team is an essential part of ensuring the travelling squad is fully prepared. “Even recently in our preliminary games, we sent through management and logistics to go and have a look at the environment, get an understanding of partners in the different countries because football is about relationships, understanding the landscape,” he said. “It’s not just about the game that happens on the day. Very important. Now we know where we’re going, we can sit down and plan with our stakeholders how to approach the journey from a travel perspective, from a dietary perspective. The planning and work begin now.”

The Chiefs delegation will focus on securing smooth travel arrangements, confirming accommodation standards, assessing training facilities, and managing other operational details. Motaung Jr highlighted the importance of learning from the experience of other South African clubs on the continent. “Sundowns and Pirates have been in these competitions; they’ve got that well-oiled security and understanding of the landscape. So it’s very important. It’s something that we’re going to lean heavily towards,” he added.

With two demanding trips to North Africa on the horizon, Chiefs are aiming to use meticulous preparation to gain a competitive edge in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup. The early planning underscores the club’s intent to not only compete but also make a statement in the group stage, drawing on the organisational standards and continental experience of South Africa’s most successful clubs.
