Kaizer Motaung Jr. Explains Chiefs’ Signing of Khanyisa Mayo

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has provided insight into the club’s decision to sign former Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo, who becomes the 11th recruit at Naturena this season.
The club confirmed over the weekend that Mayo will join the 2025/26 campaign after falling out of favour at CR Belouizdad. Chiefs have long admired the Mthatha-born forward and had previously seen several attempts to sign him blocked by Cape Town City.
Speaking to the club’s website, Motaung Jr. explained why Mayo was a target for so long. “It’s no secret that we wanted to bring Khanyisa to Naturena before his move to Algeria. He has a proven track record in the league, and we believe he will add significant value to the squad this season when we play in the league, as well as on the continent,” he said.
Motaung Jr. also highlighted the family legacy, noting that Mayo joins a group of players who have followed in their parents’ footsteps. “He joins a select group of athletes who’ve made their families proud by following in their footsteps. We are truly happy to have him here and wish him all the best,” he added.
With Chiefs’ next match against log leaders Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium on 16 September, the club could see the left-footed attacker feature in their line-up, strengthening their attacking options as they aim to maintain momentum in the league and continental competitions.
