Khanyisa Mayo Eligible for Kaizer Chiefs Ahead of CAF Confederation Cup Second Preliminary Round

Khanyisa Mayo will be eligible to feature for Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round after missing the first round due to registration timing.
The CR Belouizdad loanee joined Chiefs on 5 September, after the CAF registration window for the first preliminary round had closed on 31 August. As a result, he was unable to play in the first and second leg ties against Kabuscorp, which Chiefs won 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw.
CAF allows clubs progressing to the second preliminary round to register new players. This registration window opened on 1 September and closes on 30 September, meaning Mayo and other recent signings, such as Lebohang Maboe, can now be added to Chiefs’ squad list.
Kaizer Chiefs will face the winner of the tie between AS Simba of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Djabal d’Iconi of Comoros. AS Simba holds a 1-0 first leg advantage, with the second leg scheduled for this weekend.
Other players who could feature for Chiefs in the group stage include Etiosa Ighodaro, currently sidelined with injury, as well as Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi, pending clearance from SAFA Appeal and Ighodaro’s recovery.
CAF will allow another registration period ahead of the group stage. The second preliminary round first legs are set for 17-19 October, with return legs on 24-26 October. Chiefs now have the opportunity to strengthen their squad with new signings ahead of their next CAF challenge.
