CAF Rules in Favor of FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo Against Orlando Pirates

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ruled in favor of FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo following a complaint lodged by Orlando Pirates regarding player eligibility.

Pirates had claimed that Lupopo may have fielded Ramos Kashala Wanet ineligibly, arguing that his international clearance was processed after the required cut-off date. CAF reviewed the complaint and confirmed the eligibility of both Kashala and teammate Molia, effectively dismissing Orlando Pirates’ case.

Lupopo shared the ruling in an official statement on Facebook, calling it a “decisive administrative victory.” The club highlighted that CAF’s decision reinforces the legitimacy of the team’s players and validates their on-field results.

The statement also confirmed that coach Guy Bukasa Misakabu’s six-match suspension in the DRC U-20 case remains in effect, as upheld by CAF’s Disciplinary Jury.

The ruling included financial sanctions against Orlando Pirates. The club was fined $5,000 (approximately R85,000) for attempting to deprive Lupopo of necessary accreditations and $20,000 (around R343,500) for reportedly spraying chemicals in Lupopo’s locker room.

Lupopo emphasized that the decision strengthens their position in CAF competitions and boosts confidence in their achievements on the field. The club pledged to continue defending its interests with determination.

The ruling marks a significant administrative victory for Lupopo while presenting a setback for Orlando Pirates, who now face both reputational and financial consequences.
