Mamelodi Sundowns lost away to Maritzburg United in the DSTV Premiership on Saturday night. Co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has cited the refereeing performance as the reason for their defeat.
The visitors had taken the lead through an expert Peter Shalulile header. This was after a sublime cross from Haashim Domingo.
The hosts equalised through an Alfred Ndengane header from a corner kick. Mngqithi thought that this was a foul on Thapelo Morena.
Events got even more controversial when Kennedy Mweene was judged to have fouled Amadou Soukouna in the box, even though replay showed that there was no contact made. The striker picked himself up to slot the ball in the back of the net.
“Both. Ndengane climbed on top of Thapelo.” The tactician told SuperSport TV after the defeat.
“Everybody could see that. I could see that.
“The referee was very close to that action and it’s unfortunate.
“It’s the same referee that’s been busy with us with red cards and you look at this at the foul that resulted in the penalty, no touch and the player is diving far before even the tackle, but you don’t want to sound like you are always focused on the referees.
“But the referees must also do their job. They must not come here to earn money for not doing what they are supposed to do.
“So, it’s very important they do not just kill the work of other people.
“They must do their job; we must do our job. Then we will not talk about what others are doing and what others are doing because when you look at these two glaring decisions, you ask yourself what exactly you want to see more.” He lamented.
They still maintain their lead at the top of the table despite the loss. Manqoba Mngqithi Blames the Referee After Defeat to Maritzburg United!
