MC Alger President Reacts to Rulani Mokwena’s First Trophy and Targets More Silverware

MC Alger president Abdul-Hakim Hadj Redjem has reacted to Rulani Mokwena’s first trophy in Algerian football and made it clear the club is not satisfied with one success this season. The South African coach lifted his maiden piece of silverware on Saturday after guiding MC Alger to victory in the Algerian Super Cup.

MC Alger defeated fierce rivals USM Alger 1-0 in a tense encounter. The decisive goal came in the 74th minute through Zakaria Naidj, who made an instant impact after coming off the bench just five minutes earlier. The strike was Naidj’s third goal of the season and proved enough as MC Alger defended with discipline to close out the match.

The win secured MC Alger’s fifth Algerian Super Cup title and marked an important milestone for Mokwena in his first season in Algerian football. It also reinforced the club’s growing momentum under the former Wydad Athletic Club coach.

Speaking after the match, Hadj Redjem praised the players, technical team and supporters for their role in the success. He acknowledged the quality of the opposition and stressed that the trophy was deserved given the collective effort shown on the day.

Despite the celebrations, the MC Alger president quickly shifted focus to the broader objectives of the season. He made it clear the Super Cup is only one step in a much bigger campaign. Hadj Redjem stated that the club still has many matches ahead across multiple competitions and must continue working with full focus.

MC Alger currently sit at the top of the Algerian Ligue 1 table with a commanding 12-point lead over second-placed CR Belouizdad, coached by Sead Ramovic. However, Hadj Redjem cautioned that the league title is not yet secured and warned against complacency.

The club is also still active in other competitions. MC Alger recently booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Algerian Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ben Aknoun in the Round of 16. While their CAF Champions League campaign started slowly, they remain in contention to advance from the group stage.

Hadj Redjem emphasized that MC Alger are competing for every available trophy this season. He described Mouloudia as a great club with a responsibility to challenge on all fronts. Under Mokwena’s leadership, the team remains firmly in the hunt for success domestically and in Africa as the season progresses.
