Stellenbosch FC Sign Belgian Defender Henri Stanic in Boost to Backline

Stellenbosch FC have made a significant addition to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season with the acquisition of Belgian centre-back Henri Stanic. The 22-year-old arrives on a permanent deal from Maltese Premier League side Balzan FC, bringing with him not only international experience but also a knack for finding the net.
Stanic caught the eye during an impressive 2023/24 campaign in Malta, where he featured in 28 league games and scored five goals—an unusual but welcome statistic for a central defender. His contributions on both ends of the pitch underline the versatility and impact Stellenbosch will be hoping he brings to the Cape Winelands.
Currently with his new teammates in Johannesburg for pre-season training, Stanic has expressed both excitement and determination as he begins his South African football journey. Speaking through the club’s official channels, he made it clear that the vision at Stellenbosch was a key factor in his decision to make the move.
“I’m very grateful and excited to be here. The team has already welcomed me very well, and I’m looking forward to the season ahead,” said Stanic. “The project at Stellenbosch FC is what attracted me to come to South Africa. I spoke to several people at the club, and I really like what is being worked on.”
Stanic also emphasized his commitment to giving his all for the badge, expressing his ambition to grow with the club while showcasing his talent in the South African top flight. “I will fight for the badge and give 100% for the team. I am still young, and I have ambitions that I hope to achieve with the club,” he added.
His arrival comes at a time when Stellenbosch are looking to build on the strong foundation laid under head coach Steve Barker. The club has been making steady progress in recent seasons, gaining a reputation for both exciting football and smart recruitment. Stanic’s blend of youth, experience, and attacking threat from the back adds a new dimension to their defensive options.
As preparations for the upcoming season intensify, all eyes will be on how the new recruit adapts to the demands of the Betway Premiership. With his physical presence and hunger to prove himself, Henri Stanic is poised to become a key figure in Stellenbosch’s ambitions for the new campaign.
