Monnapule Saleng Set to Stay at Orbit College Despite Recall Speculation

Despite rising speculation about a possible early return to Orlando Pirates, winger Monnapule Saleng is expected to see out his loan spell at Orbit College FC. Sources close to both clubs indicate that a recall before the end of the season is highly unlikely.
Saleng, 27, has been in fine form since joining the Rustenburg-based side on a season-long loan. His performances have been key to Orbit’s recent success in their debut Betway Premiership campaign. Over the weekend, he produced a Man of the Match display as Orbit secured back-to-back top-flight victories for the first time in their history.
The pacey winger scored from the penalty spot and later assisted fellow Pirates loanee Thuso Moleleki in a 3-1 win over Magesi FC at Olympia Park. That performance followed his goal against Richards Bay FC, bringing his tally to two goals and two assists in nine league appearances. His growing influence has lifted Orbit to 11th on the log and injected confidence into the squad ahead of their next fixture against Kaizer Chiefs.
While his resurgence has sparked talk of an early return to Mayfair, Pirates’ technical team is reportedly satisfied with his current progress. Club insiders suggest the Buccaneers believe regular minutes at Orbit are more valuable for Saleng’s development than a mid-season recall.
“Saleng’s form is making everyone happy. He is being supported to continue at Orbit so that he can help the club do well in their first season in the top flight,” said a source familiar with the situation. “The plan is for him to return to Pirates at the end of the campaign, not before. The focus is on helping him get back to his best.”
For Saleng, the loan spell represents a crucial opportunity to rediscover his rhythm after a challenging previous season at Pirates, where he struggled for consistent game time. His trademark speed, direct play, and attacking intent have begun to return, reminding many of the qualities that once made him one of the most exciting wingers in South African football.
With Orbit thriving and Saleng gaining momentum, both clubs appear content to let the arrangement run its course. The expectation is that he will rejoin Pirates at the end of the season sharper, more confident, and ready to reclaim his place among the Soweto giants.
