MTN 8 Trolls Mamelodi Sundowns & Kaizer Chiefs!
MTN 8 Trolls Mamelodi Sundowns & Kaizer Chiefs! The two South African football giants were eliminated from the competition in quite humiliating fashion.
Kaizer Chiefs were eliminated in the semi-finals of the competition. They lost 5-0 on aggregate to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.
Mamelodi Sundowns was eliminated in the very first round of the competition. They lost 1-0 at home to Bloemfontein Celtic.
“When you realise you have no #WafaWafa football to look forward to…FIFA break or not” is what the MTN 8 official Twitter page posted.
The two clubs have since enjoyed contrasting fates in the PSL. Mamelodi Sundowns sit on top of the DSTV Premiership table with only 3 games played.
Kaizer Chiefs on the other hand sit in 11th place. They have won, drawn, and lost in each of their opening three games.
The MTN 8 itself will conclude on the 12th of November when Orlando Pirates take on Bloemfontein Celtic.
The Buccaneers are the strong favourites to lift the trophy and put and end to their trophy drought. However, the last final Orlando Pirates reached was the 2018 Telkom Knockout Final in which they lost to lowly Baroka F.C.
Bloemfontein Celtic have shown good pedigree in cup competitions over the years. They reached the Nedbank Cup Final in 2020, where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Star man Victor Letsoalo was voted as the competition’s best player. He is the same man to score the winning goal against SuperSport United on Saturday (7 November 2020).
