Orlando Pirates Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou Proud of Nine Players in Bafana Bafana AFCON Squad

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has expressed pride in his players selected for South Africa’s Africa Cup of Nations squad. Nine Buccaneers were named in the final 25-man list announced by national coach Hugo Broos on Monday, highlighting the club’s contribution to the national team.
Speaking to the media at Rand Stadium ahead of the Carling Knockout final against Marumo Gallants at Peter Mokaba Stadium this weekend, Ouaddou emphasized the club’s commitment to supporting Bafana Bafana.
“First of all, we are proud as a club. I am proud as a coach of my players representing the national team. Orlando Pirates is a club that works for the nation. We are available for the national team, for the coach, and for collaboration,” Ouaddou said. He added that seeing nine players called up is a moment of pride for the entire club.
While celebrating the national team selections, Ouaddou made it clear that the immediate focus remains on securing success in the Carling Knockout final. “Before speaking about the national team, we have a target this week. We aim to perform and win against Marumo Gallants. After that, we will wish our players the best of luck for AFCON,” he said.
The nine Pirates players called up are Sipho Chaine, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Oswin Appollis, Thalente Mbatha, Sipho Mbule, Tsephang Moremi, Relebogile Mofokeng, and Evidence Makgopa. Their inclusion underlines the depth of talent at the Soweto club and the important role Pirates continue to play in shaping South African football.
Ouaddou’s comments highlight the balance between club objectives and national pride, ensuring the Buccaneers remain focused on immediate goals while supporting their players’ international ambitions. The Carling Knockout final provides the team with a chance to deliver silverware before the players depart for AFCON duty.
