Percy Tau’s Club Bruges Record Embarrassing UEFA Champions League History
Percy Tau was an unused substitute when his Belgian club Bruges had two players sent off for their celebrations after a stoppage-time equaliser away at Galatasaray on Tuesday night.
Krepin Diatta’s goal saw the Belgian champions snatch a 1-1 draw in in Turkey to keep them above Galatasaray in the battle for a Europa League place.
But it was overshadowed almost immediately after Diatta was shown a second yellow card for taking his shirt off in his exuberant celebrations.
Clinton Mata who set up the goal, kicked the corner flag, breaking it in the process and he too had already been booked before, he too received his marching orders.
The pair will now miss their final Champions League game at home to Real Madrid.
Club Bruges have made a bit of unwanted history as the first team to have two players sent off in injury time at the end of a Champions League match.
Neither side between Bruges and Galatasaray will be able to qualify for the last-16 with the draw confirming Real Madrid’s progression to the last 16 stage.
Paris Saint-Germain confirmed their top spot finish in the group with a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu in the later game.
